![]() Trio4mas interprets all genres of Latin music, blending the styles and rhythms of Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Puerto Rican roots music with the excitement and improvisation of American Jazz. By combining the hot sounds of salsa, samba, mambo, boleros, cha-cha-chas, funk and jazz, Trio4mas presents a fresh musical perspective with a distinct energy all its own. The group brings this pan-cultural approach to their performance of both Latin and jazz standards as well as their own original compositions. The members of Trio4mas bring their talents from the musical traditions of Puerto Rico, Brazil, Cuba and the U.S. Their collective expertise combines the Afro-Caribbean traditions of Puerto Rico and Cuba, the percussive improvisation of Brazil and the roots of Jazz, Funk, and R & B from the USA, resulting in sound that has an authentic Caribbean foundation but is exciting, innovative and unique. The primary instrumentation of Trio4mas is comprised of Flugelhorn, Piano, Guitar, Bass and Percussion with vocal Sonero. This flexible ensemble allows for a wide energetic range while providing the depth to perform a multitude of styles in an improvisational format. |

Luis Angel Bonet Aviles Sonero Vocals Luis Angel was born and raised in Cuba and emigrated to the U.S. in 2003. His father, the famous Cuban musician Louis Bonet, introduced him to music as a young child and he has been dedicated ever since to a life in music. While growing up in Cuba, Luis studied composition and harmony but soon displayed a natural gift for singing. He founded the well-known Latin band Yakare with his brothers and released two CDs with this group in 1998. Following an invitation to perform in Mexico, the band was invited to perform in the U.S. Many of the band members took up the offer and emigrated to the States. Luis was detained at the border until an attorney from the Political Asylum Project of Austin learned of his situation and arranged for a letter petitioning his freedom. Since arriving in Austin, Luis has rapidly earned a reputation as one of the best Latin vocalists in the region and his skills as a Sonero are unsurpassed. Luis Angel is currently the lead vocalist in the Latin band The Brew as well as Trio4mas. |

Felipe Borrero Trumpet, Trombone & Hand Percussion Growing up in the New York City area I was accustomed to hearing Jazz music from the radio stations as well as the Salsa music from my Puerto Rican neighborhood. As a young boy I used to go to watch the holiday parades in New York City and was drawn to the Trumpets and Trombones proclaiming their presence, hearing them echo off the walls of the buildings. I thought then what a powerful sound and declaration of holidays and celebration. My first band director, Mr. Botello, instilled in me the hard work ethic of practice makes perfect and to always reach for the unreachable. My High School band director, Mr. Allen, introduced me to Jazz Music on the Blue Note label and the rest is history. One day in my freshman high school band class a man by the name of Mr. Mungia came and asked for a trumpet player to come and play with his band. I was then introduced to Cha Cha’s, Bolero’s, Salsa, Merengue and Latin Jazz. What a spiritual musical awakening for me. I then became a paid professional musician in the year 1969. These three men have all since passed away but I will never forget their impact. After almost 40 years of playing the trumpet, trombone and flugelhorn, I have been very blessed to have been involved in Salsa, Merengue, Blues, Country Swing, Top 40, Jazz, Latin Jazz and Tejano bands throughout my career. My wish is that you enjoy now the latest excerpt from my musical journey in the TRIO4MAS Latin Jazz group as I attempt to declare the powerful sounds of holidays and celebration. |
